Belize is an English speaking country located in Central America. It is bordered by Guatemala, Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The country was home to the Mayans many years ago. The Mayan lived there about three thousand years ago in the area known as the Yucatan Peninsula. They Mayans also lived in southeastern Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. Many of them lived in small farming villages where they grew crops like corn, beans and peppers. A variety of languages developed during this period. Despite the European influence, the evidence of this culture still exists today.

The country also has a hurricane season, lasting from the beginning of June until the end of November, although statistically it does not get many major hurricanes or direct hits. There are also occurrences of severe tropical weather, causing high winds and heavy rain. However, the country does have safety measures in places for dealing with impending storms. Evacuation procedures help to save lives and minimize damage when there are hurricanes or tropical storms approaching.
