Win Over Your Audience

By David Springall

Persuasion is the art of trying to get people to change their minds or opinions to agree that what you are saying is right.

In advertising persuasive topics come in all forms. From television ads, infomercials, books, magazines. Each one of them are asking you to believe in their concept. For that to happen the sellers have to set their intension on what way do they want to persuade people? And what end result do they want to achieve.

The above intensions can be applied in your own life.

If your intension is to get a rise in salary, make a sale, or even convince a salesperson to give you twenty percent off, you can apply persuasion.

Once you have the focus of your intention, you can start molding the persuasive component. Think about this: how can you introduce a change without facing the resistance from the person you are talking to? How will you state your point of view in order for the other person to understand your concept?

It is important to make an emotional note about the state of mind of the person you are communicating with. This information can be used to your advantage.

Most people act upon their emotions and emotions play a major role in persuasion techniques. Never focus too much on facts and figures because your target is to get your audience to accept and trust you. Only then they will be comfortable with the ideas that you are handing out.

Persuasion is not something that happens instantly. Whatever topic, you discuss make sure to repeat your message and give your audience time to process it.

It is important to remember that you keep your cool and stay in control when using persuasion within a conversation. Never allow your current mood to dictate how the conversation plays out. Always be honest without being vulnerable or too sincere. If you show any nerves, your audience will be uninterested and more likely to resist anything you have to say. By being patient and taking things slowly, you will be able to get your point across with less resistance.
