Its Best To Get Along In Your Community

By Jeffery S. Niowsky

A fence is a part of your property. It could be yours alone but in some instances, only half of the side belongs to you. There are many reasons why people build fences. Generally, it is to protect their privacy and set visual boundaries on their property. Most of the fence owners would like to keep their fences maintained because it adds beauty and neatness to their property. There would be no problem in keeping the fence in good condition if the fence lies on your property, however, complicated discussions is inevitable if the fence is shared by two property owners.

Its a fact of geography, civil engineering & town planning that adjacent neighbors are facts of modern life and lifestyles . Some people are lucky to have "quiet-often not at home neighbors" which is equivalent of not having neighbors at all. However, other homeowners are stuck with the not-so-good neighbors, who are hard to deal with even during a holy Sunday morning. Most often than not, our neighbors especially those not so good ones are the primary reason why we build fences, this happens after a toilsome discussion or rather argument that we had regarding our issue with our neighbors.

In some cases, some people are simply hard to deal with. Either they have exaggerated their own rights and justifications or they are just simply strange. So, staying away is just the best you can do. These types of neighbors are best to be ignored and disregarded. Aside from personal differences, property lines or boundaries seem to pose a never ending issue between neighbors. The main question is, where exactly should it lie?

In case you had purchased a house with a hideous fence which unfortunately a shared one, it's a good idea to take things slowly and cautiously. As a new resident in the neighborhood, you can't just make a scene and demolish the fence whenever you want to. Since your intentions are good, you can politely introduce yourself to your new neighbors. Talk with them and let them know that you are thinking about replacing the fence and ask them whether they are interested in doing it as a joint venture.

Conflicts could be avoided when we set aside our assumptions and try to talk to involve parties. Think about how communication improves our relationship with our own loved ones, it can surely be applied with our neighbors too. It's worth trying than based our thoughts with our morbid assumptions.
