The city of Kisumu is in Kenya, East Africa. It is the home of the Good Shepard Ministries led by Pastor David Oloo. Not too far away is the house of worship in Homa Bay, Kenya. The two cities that sit on the shores of Lake Victoria are about seventy miles from one another by land. If you take the Lake Victoria route the distance is cut in half to about thirty five miles. Christ Faith Evangelical Church was the former name of the house of worship, which is now named the Good Shepard House of Worship. David Oloo was the senior pastor for the Christ Faith church and continues to serve in that capacity for the Good Shepard church.
From 2005 to 2008 Pastor Oloo and his associates worked very hard to establish the Homa Bay orphanage, home to twenty five children. Sadly, the effects of AIDS impacted many of this kids, who lost their parents to the disease. Through his work with God, the good pastor has been gratified to be able to provide a safe home for these children. The funding for the orphanage has changed, but it continues to be a source of thankfulness for David Oloo.
The church was able to purchase a plot of land in Homa Bay in 2010 thanks to the generosity of an American member. As with any true act of charity, the donor is not named. The building was completed in 2011. The facility can house up to six hundred people for services. The American benefactor continues to donate proceeds from her business to fund the church.
The beauty of Kisumu and its people make it a wonderful home for the ministries and the church. Kisumu is a port city with a shoreline on Lake Victoria. The population is around four hundred thousand. There area many attractions where tourists can learn about the city and its culture. Kisumu is working towards environmental awareness and improvements. There is a wildlife sanctuary for animals, and the cheetahs are magnificent. They also continue to work for preservation of the wetlands of Dunga Beach.
Bishop Nashon Oloo worked with his son, David, to build the orphanage and is known for his work in the community. The Oloos and the Good Shepard Ministries have similar practices and beliefs that you would find in any Western Christian congregation. The bible is the basis of their faith and the belief that it is the word of God. They believe that Jesus is their savior who died to atone for the sins of mankind. It is their practice to be baptized with full body immersion into the water.
