Native American Regalia And The Stereotypes Of The Original Population Of US

By Steven Reed

Many people assume that native Americans are a touchy subject, however, if you dig a little deeper, you will find that this should have been dropped centuries ago. Native American regalia is one to celebrate and for the rest of the world to embrace fully. The common stereotypes are as follows.

One of the reasons why so many people are against getting to know the ethos is mainly because the people are known to be lazy. Not just lazy as in laying around but it is sometimes as though there is no motive. So, they would rather repeat a class a few times than to study and pass it the first time. They are regularly failing classes.

Benefits from the government are something that every state provides, however, eras ago, an arrangement was made with these tribes that if they give up their land, they will receive education and other benefits, which is still carried through to today. This does not solely belong to them. Many other people also receive benefits of the same kind as well as others that sometimes even these communities don t get.

No, their houses are not filled with so many spiritual items that they can t move, or that if you enter, you will die. They probably do have the items that are of value to them but their homes are not going to look any less normal than yours do. These values are also something that was passed on and taught them which is why you will still see some items but not more than usual.

Telling stories is something that they are known for. Some may be true and some are ancient fairy tales that they were told by their parents and grandparents. Regardless, this is actually quite beautiful, especially since in this day and age, kids are taught to watch movies on an iPad rather than going back to the basics and having their parents tell them a story.

Alcohol is the one item that can bring people or together or in this case, keep them apart. So, they have a drink or two more than you do, but who cares? That is entirely their choice and it s not like they are going and destroying the rest of the world. Natives are quite peaceful drinkers and this was more common eras ago than it is today. It may still be instilled in them but it s not as though you will see a drunk tribe walking about.

Perhaps the fact they are different is what bugs others but this is what makes them leaders and not followers. Their beliefs and traditions may be frowned upon but they still carry through since this is what they know to be valued.

With a little research, you can learn a lot more about them as well as what you can do to not offend them but rather, become more knowledgeable. The one mistake that many makes are that they tend to speak in a past tense. They always reference what has happened back then instead of focusing in the now.
