Alcohol Abuse and How to Finally Stop It

Most individuals who abuse alcohol know the reasons why they must give up drinking, but the how continues to puzzle even this most diligent person among us. Maybe you have made a huge legal mess or you've lost one more job. Its possible that you were abandoned by both your spouse and family members because of your behavior. Whatever your reason is, it is time to take a good look at yourself and finally be certain to stop drinking liquor.

If you want to succeed then you could use some tools and strategies. Heavy drinkers need help through withdrawal and detox. So before quitting, ask for a physician's advice. Others will only experience minimal physical discomfort. A lot of alcoholics have tried to quit once or twice in their lives. It could take years before one could get rid of the physical cravings. You will not succeed if you don't learn to live a life without alcohol. For every one thousand alcoholics, only one stays sober for at least 2 years. The odds are dismal but there is a way to be that 1.

You will be unsuccessful if you don't follow the methodical process to quit drinking liquor.

First, you have to convince yourself that you must quit drinking.

If you really would like to give up drinking alcohol then you must jot down every possible reason why you. Write down each and every reason you can think of. Be sure and include anyone you hurt, how humiliated you are, and any damage you have caused. Put this paper in a safe place so that you could read it if you need to expel any hesitation that your should stop drinking alcohol.

If you need more convincing then think of the money you could save if you stop going to bars and purchasing alcohol. With the legal fees, you can bring home your entire salary. Check your credit card statements and your budget; do not just invent numbers. Try to figure out how much alcohol is costing you not just mentally, physically, relationally but financially.

This kind of truthful introspection is something you would have to get used to in order to come to terms with your life and recover fully. You will know when you're prepared and committed to quit drinking liquor.

Get to a Doctor

The damage done to your body is something only a physician can evaluate. A physician can also give advice as to how to give up drinking. You may require hospitalization and medical supervision, or you might be able to go it by yourself.

Telling People You Trust Could be Helpful

Another effective method to quit drinking is to tell trusted people who would understand that you are going to stop drinking and you might need their help. If they really care about you then they would support you.

12 Step Meetings is a great place to meet others who have experienced the same thing you're going through. Searching for 12 Step meetings within your neighborhood will get you started. Different meetings draw various individuals. Attend lots of meetings all around your neighborhood; in fact, you should go to ninety meetings in ninety days.
