In almost all activities in the society, people are discriminated by others because of the race they come from. However, in many professional sports, things are handled quite differently. In athletics there are very many people from the black American society who have managed to build successful careers in different sports like basketball, football and even athletics. For this reason, the article seeks to analyze racism in professional sports.
In athletics, people are chosen based on skill and this is a very hard factor to discriminate. It is hard to include someone in the team just because they are from a certain race even if they do not have some skill because in the end they will have to represent the country. For this reason even if the racial dynamics continue to influence other areas in society, sports remains genuine.
In spite of this, people still believe that to some extent, the blacks are still discriminated in this profession. Although it is hard to exclude the blacks from teams, people have found a way to not include them in more professional positions like the coaches. Most of these positions are being occupied by the white people.
A particular research was conducted a few years ago and the findings say that most sporting games such as athletics and football are dominated by the black players but in management, the white counterparts dominate them. The ordinary number of African-Americans who may be ready to work in management positions is very big yet they are never being hired.
For someone to properly manage a team, they have to have a lot of skill and experience in this game so that they can easily understand everything that is happening. If people were fair, it is the black people who would have held more seats in the managements since they have better understanding of the games they play.
Very many white players and team managers have still not accepted the black players and they are not reluctant in showing it. For instance, a team manager recently expressed his disgust for the colored people when he was accidentally caught on tape asking his girlfriend to stop posting pictures of black American men on her social media accounts.
Many people have kept quiet about their feelings towards the colored people just because of the consequences they would face after making their remarks but the truth is people have not fully accepted that all people are equal. This is why many people unknowingly make remarks that show their racist sides even without them knowing.
However, the racism problem has greatly improves in the past few years as more people have tried to fight the racism that is taking over the society. Since the election of the first African-American president more people have tried to accept the black society because this election made them realize that they are just equal. The little bit of racism that is left in the professional sports department needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.
