By Lelia Hall

Across the globe is the distribution of different region and beliefs. Different religions usually have different ministers to engage in the provision of spiritual guidance. They usually provide this guidance to the gathered congregations. They are mandated to offer leadership and guidance in different functions. These include the likes of baptism, wedding among others.

Different religion and churches have assigned these people with different responsibilities. These responsibilities across a specific religion will match but also differ in some ways. Some of the role and responsibilities assigned to these groups of people will include, spearheading coordination in different church activities, ensuring that administrative functions are running smoothly; providing necessary guidance and coordination support, being involved in community services, being the pillar to lead in prayers while providing guidance and support to people.

Different denominations have different training and qualification levels for one to be named a minister. A sense of calling is mostly a requirement for all those who want to engage in providing ministerial services. Some denominations will emphasize on natural gifts while others will emphasize on advance qualification. This may include tertiary education from either a seminary, university or a theological college.

In most of the churches including the likes of Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, among others, emphasize on only ordained clergy when it come to conducting church matters. Even at points where politics is concerned, they will only use the ordained people/personnel/clergy. These churches have the following people: Bishop, Priest and deacons.

The role of these people will include: for bishops, administering sacramental services within the church and also governing the daily running of the church. Priests are involved in administering sacraments and also providing guidance to the different congregation. The authority to ordain or consecrate buildings is not within their jurisdiction. Deacons are mandated to providing the necessary support to the church: this is to ensure the church runs in an efficient manner.

The organizational structure of the church has been changing over time. The structure that was found in the past periods has changed by a big margin. In the northern Europe, the clergy had different role from the role he currently has. He/She was mandated to carry out the different roles within the church. He/She had the ability to offer sacramental services in the church. Inheritance of the roles in the church was common, this is not the case currently.

The Swedish empire including the likes of Finland and Baltic, have resisted change in the Catholic Church. Due to this resistance, some of the role of the clergy can be seen Clearly. A comparison between the roles of the clergy in this part of the world with the role in different parts of the world will show you how the clergy role has changed.

Ministers within the church are supposed to carry out various activities. These includes, officiating worship rituals and also leading some of the church ceremonies. These will include baptism, confirmation, anointing of the sick, and providing divine services among others.

There has been involvement of new groups of people in the management of the present church. This include pastors, chaplain, and also padres. Pastors are mandated with the responsibility of preaching the gospel. Chaplain and padres will offer guidance to different groups of congregation including the military and some specific groups. There has also been the emergence of different types of denominations; this will include the likes of Youth ministry, campus ministry and married couple ministry among others.
